LEAD STORY

WHAT DOES IT FEEL LIKE TO BE A STUDENT AT RAYAT BAHRA?

How Every Everyday Encounter Shapes the Student Experience

A student's experience of a university is rarely shaped by one big moment. More often, it is shaped by hundreds of small encounters throughout the day. The security guard at the gate, the person at the office counter, the staff member answering a query, the housekeeping associate in the corridor, the person attending a hostel complaint, the traffic marshal helping him cross the road—each interaction becomes part of the student's experience of Rayat Bahra.

We often think of these as separate services. For the student, they are not. To him, it is simply his University. And that is why every one of us has a role in creating the experience we want our students to have.

A student who comes to an office with a problem should not leave wondering whom he should have approached. A student waiting for a service should not feel that his time does not matter. A student seeking help should not feel that he is being passed from one person to another. And a student walking anywhere on campus should feel that his safety and well-being matter to the people around him.

This is where the idea of "Someone Cares" becomes more than a phrase. It is a standard we can apply to everything we do. Before introducing a policy, we should ask: Does this make our students safer? Before designing a process: Does this make their lives easier? Before taking a decision: Will this improve their experience of the University?

Because Rayat Bahra University is, in many ways, a service institution—and the student is at the heart of that service. Our objective should therefore be bigger than simply delivering a service correctly. It should be to make every student feel that he or she is someone important here.

Student Security. Student Comfort. Student Experience. Three priorities. One simple question: When a student leaves us, does he feel that someone cared? That, perhaps, is the real measure of the campus we are building.

AWARENESS

Myth vs Reality

MYTH

"I have done my job if I have given the student an answer."

REALITY

For a student, getting an answer and getting a problem solved are not always the same thing. If the solution lies with another department, don't simply send the student away—take ownership and help him reach the right person.

Key Takeaway: Service is not about passing the problem. It is about owning the experience.
CAMPUS COMMUNITY

35+ COUNTRIES. ONE CAMPUS.

Rayat Bahra University is home to students from more than 35 countries, bringing different languages, cultures, traditions and experiences together on one campus.

For us, this diversity is more than a number. It is an opportunity to understand differences, respect one another and ensure that everyone feels welcome, comfortable and safe. That is what "Someone Cares" means at RBU—making every person feel that they belong.

35+ countries. One campus. One community. One Culture of Protection.

CAMPUS INITIATIVE

THIS WEEK IN CAMPUS SECURITY: SOMEONE CARES

At Rayat Bahra, security is not only about gates, guards and cameras. It is about making every student and staff member feel that someone is looking out for them. When a student crosses the bridge safely, gets help when in difficulty, or sees someone step in before a problem becomes an incident—that is Someone Cares.

And that care does not stop at the campus gate. For our staff travelling to and from campus, the RBU security team remains on standby to assist in case of an incident, breakdown or car trouble.

Whether you are on campus or on your way to or from it, help is just a call away: 94656 00041. Someone Cares. Always.

INCIDENT LEARNING

VEHICULAR SAFETY & GATE DISCIPLINE

Case 1: A Few Seconds Too Soon

A bus entering the campus recently struck the boom barrier while attempting to enter in a hurry. The impact damaged the barrier and forced the driver to brake suddenly, causing a sudden jolt and rush among the passengers inside.

Fortunately, the incident did not result in injury. But it could easily have been different. The incident is a reminder that hurrying through a controlled entry point is not merely a risk to property—it can put passengers, pedestrians and other vehicles at risk.

Lesson: Slow down. Let the system work. Enter safely.

Case 2: The Race to Get Out

The evening rush at Gate No. 1 can become a dangerous few minutes. As vehicles queue to exit, some drivers try to overtake the vehicle ahead, while others attempt to use the Visitor Gate to get ahead of the queue. The risk becomes even greater once vehicles are outside the gate, where impatient overtaking can bring two vehicles dangerously close to one another.

The danger is not only to the driver making the move. A vehicle being overtaken may be carrying a student, a family member—or a woman colleague who may have little room or time to react to a sudden manoeuvre.

The Actionable Learnings

  • There is no prize for being the first vehicle out of the gate.
  • Slow down. Stay in your lane. Follow the queue.
  • Give the vehicle ahead enough space and allow others to exit safely.
  • A few minutes saved is never worth an accident. At the campus exit, patience is not courtesy—it is safety.
COMMUNITY HONESTY

LOST, FOUND & RETURNED

Lost: Nil  |  Found: Nil  |  Returned: Nil

Let's keep it that way. Thank you to every member of the Rayat Bahra community for taking care of your belongings and respecting the property of others.

EDITORIAL NOTE

SOMEONE CARES

"Someone Cares" is more than a phrase. It is our Chairman's vision of a University where no student or staff member ever feels that they are on their own.

It means noticing when someone needs help; acting when something is wrong; and taking responsibility rather than waiting for someone else. Wherever you are at Rayat Bahra, someone should be looking out for you. That is the Culture of Protection.
